PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a therapeutic or preventive agent for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) based on the onset mechanism of ROP, and to provide an inspection method for ROP.SOLUTION: Provided are a therapeutic or preventive agent for ROP containing at least one, as an active ingredient, selected from the group consisting of a tryptase inhibitor and a mast cell stabilizer derived from a mast cell; and an inspection method for ROP comprising the steps of detecting a marker material which may be released by a degranulation of a mast cell from a biological sample derived from patients, and determining ROP based on the amount of detection of the marker.
