PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber-reinforced silicon carbide-based ceramic which ensures high fracture energy and has properly controlled properties of thermal conductivity and bending strength, by properly adjusting the shape of reinforcing fibers.SOLUTION: This method for producing the carbon fiber-reinforced silicon carbide-based ceramic 1 comprises the steps of; preparing film-coated fiber assemblies 3 by assembling short carbon fibers 31 and forming a carbon film 32 on the outer surface; preparing a base part raw material 2 by mixing silicon carbide and a carbon material; preparing a mixture by mixing the film-coated fiber assemblies 3, the base part raw material 2 and short carbon fibers 4 with no carbon film; preparing a compact by forming and pressurizing the mixture; preparing a fired compact by firing the compact in a reducing atmosphere; and impregnating silicon into the fired compact under reduced pressure.
