PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a thickness of recording paper even if a conveying speed of the recording paper changes.;SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a paper thickness detection means 160 for detecting a thickness of recording paper based on displacement amount between a driving roller 164 and a driven roller 170 which convey the recording paper. The paper thickness detection means 160 has a sampling means and a calculation means. The sampling means samples a displacement amount twice or more at timing when a conveying surface of the driving roller 164 moves by a fixed length in a rotation cycle of the driving roller 164 in each case that the recording paper exists between the driving roller 164 and the driven roller 170 and it does not exist between them. The calculation means averages the sampled displacement amounts and also detects the thickness of the recording paper based on a difference of the averaged displacement amount.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
