PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical seal protector capable of curbing the deterioration of material characteristics of a mechanical seal without influencing reactor water.SOLUTION: A mechanical seal protector 4 (40, 41), which, installed in a nuclear reactor coolant recirculation pump to circulate reactor water, curbs the deterioration of mechanical seals (19, 20), comprises: a first coolant supply unit which supplies coolant (water quality B) to protect the mechanical seals 19, 20 to an arrangement region of the mechanical seals 19, 20 arranged in a pump shaft 7 of the nuclear reactor coolant recirculation pump; and a second coolant supply unit which supplies purge water (water quality A) of the same quality as the reactor water between the arrangement region and a reactor water channel of the nuclear reactor coolant recirculation pump to prevent the coolant (water quality B) from flowing in the reactor water channel. Consequently, the mechanical seal protector 4 can curb the deterioration of material characteristics of the mechanical seals 19, 20 without influencing the reactor water.
