PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable failure diagnosis device and a cable failure diagnosis method that can automatically diagnose the failure state of cable by a communication terminal itself, without specializing in detecting disconnection among cable abnormalities and determining an impedance unmatching point, and at low cost, without enlarging a circuit scale, and without relying on experienced people.SOLUTION: A cable failure diagnosis device comprises: a voltage detection unit 41 for detecting the voltage of a transmission signal excited by a communication terminal 1a and the voltage of a reflection signal returned through a network cable 2; and a failure state determination unit 43 for automatically determining the failure state of the network cable 2 from a result of classifying the output voltage value from the voltage detection unit 41 by a plurality of preset threshold values.
