PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the picture quality of a fluoroscopic image at low cost.SOLUTION: White light and excitation light are applied into a body cavity. An electronic endoscope obtains a white light image by using a CCD to image the white light reflected inside the body cavity, and obtains an autofluorescence image by using the CCD to image autofluorescence that is emitted from a living tissue within the body cavity by application of the excitation light. The movement of the subject of observation within the body cavity is detected based on the white light image. The autofluorescence image is subjected to frame addition. In that case, the number of frames added is varied depending on the movement of the subject of observation.
