Gas barrier coating composition, method for producing the same, and gas barrier coating film

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gas-barrier coating composition which is free from the deterioration of barrier properties to gases such as oxygen and a water vapor even under high-humidity conditions and is harmless to the human body, and a coating film made by using the composition and excellent in gas barrier properties. SOLUTION: The gas-barrier coating composition contains (a) a polyvinyl alcohol resin and (b) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of metal compounds represented by the formula: R1mM(OR2)n (wherein M is a metal atom; R1's may be the same or different and are each a 1-8C organic group; R2's may be the same or different and are each a 1-5C alkyl, a 1-6C acyl, or phenyl; and (m) and (n) are each an integer of 0 or greater, provided that m+n is the valence of M), hydrolyzates of the metal compounds and condensates of the metal compounds, and it has a thermal gelation rate of 1-90%. A gas-barrier coating film is prepared by using the composition.
