PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly generate optical pulse of high repetition of 1 GHz or higher which has a pulse width of 500 femtosecond or less with shaped waveform from an active mode synchronous fiber laser, with no use of an optical pulse compressor.;SOLUTION: In an active mode synchronous fiber laser, an optical amplifier 7, a single mode optical fiber 2 of which an average value of group speed dispersion is abnormal dispersion, an optical isolator 4, an optical modulator 8, and a band pass type optical filter 6 are coupled together in a ring shape to form a ring resonator, with an optical coupler 3 provided which takes out an optical pulse that is generated in the ring resonator to the outside. An advancing waveform semiconductor optical phase/intensity modulator that utilizes changes in refractive index and optical absorbance factor, at the same time, which accompany an electric-optical effect (Pockels effect) and electric field absorbance effect (quantum confinement Stark effect) of semiconductor material is used as the optical modulator 8.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
