PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire tread, especially a rubber composition for a tire for use in running at a high speed, that is excellent in wet grip performance, wear resistance, durability and the like and has improved performance on ice and to provide a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition for a tire tread. PSOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tire tread is produced by blending at least hollow fine particles in an amount of not less than 1 pt.mass and not more than 30 pts.mass with 100 pts.mass rubber component so that the number average particle size in rubber is not less than 1 μm and not more than 100 μm and the particle size distribution index (PDI) in rubber is not more than 1.50.
