A signal waveform distortion compensator includes: a waveform monitor which monitors a degree of waveform distortion of an input signal and generates waveform quality information; an equalizer control unit which controls a parameter used in an equalization process of the input signal in accordance with the waveform quality information; and an equalizer which inputs the input signal, equalizes the input signal in accordance with the parameter, and compensates the distortion of the input signal waveform distortion.
