PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a very small footprint, a single fiber optical interconnect system suitable for high density applications.;SOLUTION: A modular contact assembly 1 comprises: a ferrule plug having a longitudinal axis and comprising a spring loaded ferrule 3 and a ferrule holder 3A; and a shell 2 having one or more limiters and serving to hold the ferrule plug. The ferrule plug and the shell 2 are operably connected to each other so as to allow the ferrule 3 to move axially along the longitudinal axis when in contact with another ferrule 3, but not allowing a rotation of the ferrule 3 about the longitudinal axis.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
