PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal print head including a protective layer having high wear resistance, high reliability and high quality, and a method for manufacturing the thermal print head.;SOLUTION: The thermal print head includes: a support substrate 11; a glaze layer 12 formed on a main face of the support substrate 11; a heat generating part 15 comprising a heat generating resistive element 13 formed on the glaze layer 12; a first electrode 14a and a second electrode 14b carrying current to the heat generating part 15; and the protective layer covering the heat generating part 15 and the pair of electrodes 14.
