PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adsorbent comprising a titanium-based material, particularly a cesium adsorbent and a method for production thereof.;SOLUTION: There is provided an adsorbent characterized by including a low-crystalline or amorphous titanium hydroxide in which any of relative intensities with respect to the lowest intensity value of background in the diffraction peaks of angle (2θ) 24.6°, 28.0° and 48.5° is ≤10.0 when defining the lowest intensity value of background as 1 in the range of 20°≤2θ≤60° in an X-ray powder diffraction, and the volume of fine pores measured by a nitrogen gas adsorption method is ≥0.5 cm3/g. The adsorbent is obtained by, for example, heating the titanium hydroxide obtained through a process of producing titanium oxide by a sulfuric acid method in an aqueous alkali solution or hydrothermally treating in the presence of alkali, and neutralizing the obtained solid product by an acid in a suspension at a temperature of ≤60°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
