PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a symmetric cyclic phosphorus compound excellent in flame retardance, a preparation method thereof, and a flame-retardant styrene resin composition containing the same.;SOLUTION: The symmetric cyclic phosphorus compound is represented by formula 1 (wherein R₁ and R₂ are each individually a hydrogen atom, a 1-6C linear or branched alkyl group or 6-20C aryl group).
