PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for diagnosing remaining life enabling accurate on-line diagnosing of remaining life of a solid insulator in the reception/distribution apparatus.SOLUTION: A surface resistivity independent of humidity of the insulator of diagnosis target included in the reception/distribution apparatus is acquired (S1) by using an evaluation technique of the surface resistivity which is unaffected by humidity. A sensor insulator consisting of the same or equivalent material to the insulator of diagnosis target is installed (S2) on the reception/distribution apparatus. The surface resistivity of the sensor insulator is successively measured and successively converted to the surface resistivity of the insulator of diagnosis target (S3, S4). A correlation relation between the surface resistivity of the insulator of diagnosis target and the number of years in use of the insulator of diagnosis target is successively obtained (S5). A threshold corresponding to the correlation relation is decided (S6) on the basis of a kind and the stuck amount of an ion to be stuck to the insulator of diagnosis target. The remaining life is calculated (S7) by the difference between the number of life years which is obtained from the correlation relation and threshold, and the present number of years in use.
