PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel energy-saving method for efficiently coloring a zirconia sintered body in a short time by using the heat generated, by electromagnetic wave irradiation, from the zirconia sintered body and carbon as a reducing agent; a zirconia sintered body colored by this method; and a device for coloring a sintered body.;SOLUTION: In the method for modifying the surface of the zirconia sintered body by heating it, carbon or a carbon precursor to be carbonized by heating is placed on the surface or in its vicinity of the zirconia sintered body, and then, irradiated with electromagnetic waves to be heated in a non-oxidative atmosphere.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
