PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly compensate for dispersion characteristics of an optical transmission line even if a variation in the dispersion characteristics is small during communication.;SOLUTION: An optical transmission device includes: a variable dispersion compensator (21-m) which compensates for the wavelength dispersion of optical signals input via optical transmission lines (3-1, 3-2, ..., 3-n); a branching section (30) which branches the optical signal output from the variable dispersion compensator (21-m) to a first part and a second part; a reproduction section (31) which reproduces an original signal from the first part of the optical signal; a monitoring section (32) which receives the second part of the optical signal to control the variable dispersion compensator (21-m) in accordance with the residual wavelength dispersion of the optical signal which has passed the optical transmission lines (3-1, 3-2, ..., 3-n) and the variable dispersion compensator (21-m), and has higher sensitivity to a variation in residual wavelength dispersion than the reproduction section (31).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
