The converter (13) has a transformer (8) comprising high-voltage and low voltage windings, and a control section with a current detecting unit for detecting current at input and/or output terminals (15a, 15b). A driving frequency calculating unit calculates driving frequency of switching elements (10a, 10b) according to detected current value of the detecting unit such that the frequency is low when the detected current value is high. A drive signal producing unit produces drive signal for controlling on/off of the switching elements based on the frequency when upward operation is executed. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a bidirectional direct-current converter.
