PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a desulfurizing agent suitable for the desulfurizing agent for hydrocarbon oil in a fixed fuel cell system such as a home use, having a high specific surface area, and also having uniform mesopores and having a high adsorptive desulfurizing performance. PSOLUTION: The method for producing the adsorptive desulfurizing agent for the hydrocarbon oil is characterized by supporting an oxidized metal on a mesoporous silica having 300 to 1,000 mSP2/SP/g specific surface area and also 30 to 100 mean pore diameter and/or modifying it by an acid treatment to form acid points.
