PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent blockage at a joint of a gas passage and reduction in a flow passage cross section due to displacement in the horizontal direction of a checker brick.;SOLUTION: A checker brick 30 includes: a hexagonal columnar brick body 31; a plurality of gas passages 32 penetrating through the brick body 31 in the vertical direction; and a projected dowel 33 and a recessed dowel 34 provided on the upper surface or the lower surface of the brick body 31. An upper end opening 37 of the gas passage 32 on the upper surface 35 of the brick body 31 is larger than a lower end opening 38 of the gas passage 32 on the lower surface 36 of the brick body 31.
