PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core of a fast breeder reactor which attains the reduction in the time required for the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel materials. PSOLUTION: The core of the fast breeder reactor is constituted by placing an inner core fuel zone in the center in a radial direction and surrounding the inner core fuel zone with an outer core fuel zone. In each of fuel assemblies 7 loaded into the inner core fuel zone and each of fuel assemblies 8 loaded into the outer core fuel zone, a fuel zone 9 is located in the center of the axial direction and an upper axial blanket zone 10 and a lower axial blanket zone 11 are laid out above and below the fuel zone 9, respectively. The fuel zone 9 contains fissionable Pu. The ratio of Np-237 contained in the nuclear fuel materials in the upper and lower axial blanket zones 10 and 11 to them ranges between 3% and 10% inclusive.
