PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform character recognition for an item character string after correction even when the character recognition cannot be performed for an item character string before the correction.;SOLUTION: A business form recognition device 10 specifies the layout (the position and size of an item column where a character string to be a recognition object is arranged) of an item described in a business form 11 from image information. The business form recognition device 10 extracts the character string (item character string) for each item from the image information on the basis of the specified layout by an item character string extraction means 10c. The business form recognition device 10 performs the character recognition of the extracted character string for each item by an item character string recognition means 10d. The business form recognition device 10 detects characters redundant as the item character string, and corrects the range of the item character string by delivering the redundant characters between adjacent item character strings.
