INDICATION OF SELECTED CORE NETWORK IN A MULTIPLE CORE NETWORK ENVIRONMENT

A network broadcasts at least one list of core network identifications. A mobile station MS selects a core network from at least one broadcast list of core networks, and compiles an uplink message including a first field that indicates the message identifies a core network at a second field identifying the selected one of the multiple core networks. An access node, such as a base station, receives an uplink message from a mobile station regarding a particular core network selected by the mobile station, the particular core network being one of multiple core networks identified in at least one broadcast list, the uplink message including a first field indicating a second field that identifies the particular core network, and using at least one bit of the second field to identify the selected core network in an index of multiple core networks of the uplink message.
