The present invention discloses a highly lubricant, biodegradable, polar. multipurpose, non-toxic and bio-based wire rope grease/lubricant formulation having penetrating and coating ability and a process for preparation thereof. The process utilizes the bio- based grease as a lubricant, the degummed karanj oil as a lubricator, the karanj biodiesel as a penetrator for the lubricant, and the triethanolamine as a buffer that holds soap particles in a suspension form. The grease/lubricant formulation of the present invention is useful as a penetrating and dressing lubricant, particularly for wire ropes designed for various applications.
