Systems and methods for utilizing a modeling tool to enable visualization and editing of a hierarchical schema as a relational schema are disclosed. One method includes creating an XMI representation of a relational schema based on an XMI representation of a hierarchical schema and an indication of a version of a relational modeling tool to which the relational schema is targeted. The method also includes providing the XMI representation of the relational schema to the relational modeling tool, thereby allowing a user to view the relational schema.
