The invention refers to a method for identifying pathogens such as bacteria, virus and amoebas which cause gastroenteritis, in a child population under two years of age. The invention is carried out by a method of the multiple PCR type, which detects the aforementioned pathogens in faeces, in an approximate time of four to five hours from the moment the stool sample was taken.
