Method for treating tar pits (asphalt lakes) and use of the obtained products

Tar pits are alkalized with calcium carbonate and lime and hydrogen peroxide is admixed and bitumen, eventually oil phase and alkaline water phases are produced. The water phase is reduced and an alternative fuel is made from the obtained concentrate, coal, wood chips or different cellulose material. Bitumen fuel is made from the bitumen phase, coal or cellulose material. The bitumen can be purged of calcium sulphate and is used as an admixture or raw material at production of petroleum products, for example as an admixture to asphalt mixtures, cracking and hydrogenation mixtures. The prepared fuels are used for heat and electricity production and for production of cement and ceramic materials.
