The method for switching capacitors in set of a condenser battery for compensation of reactive power relates to electrical engineering and can be used to solve problems on compensation and control of reactive power and increase of quality of electric energy of distribution networks. The method includes capacitor connecting to the network at the instant of instantaneous voltage in mains being equal to the voltage of the switched capacitor. At that before connecting the switched capacitor to the network, at instant when the mains voltage passes through a maximum, a pre-charged to mains voltage capacitor and a same capacitance auxiliary capacitor are connected to mains. And the switched capacitor connection and disconnection is performed at instant when the instantaneous voltages of switched capacitor and the auxiliary capacitor become equal to each other. The technical result is in decrease of the amplitudes of the transition process current components at connection of a discharged capacitor to mains, this is achieved through two-step connection: first the block for formation of transition process is connect to mains, there "soft" switch is provided, and only after that the main condenser is connected, and increase the reliability of operation of the capacitor battery and increase of quality of supply voltage due to reduction of switching transient processes, thus makes possible to avoid element overloading.
