A method for diagnosing the unilateral hyperplastic processes in the maxillary sinuses provides for diaphanoscopy. The light-tight binocular mask is put onto the patient. The mask contains short-distance video cameras illuminated with infrared diodes at the wavelength of 850 nm and connected with computer. Diaphanoscope is inserted into the oral cavity. The light beam is directed from the oral cavity in the area of upper premolars and molars towards the eyeballs through the maxillary sinuses. The changes of the pupil diameter are recorded and calculated. When the difference in narrowing of the pupils is detected (upon transillumination of the affected sinus and intact one), the chronic hyperplastic process is diagnosed.
