The graphitized composite electrode for DC arc steel-melting furnaces and units of secondary refining of steels and alloys consists of a sheath and one or several active central inserts with additives of chemical compounds from elements having low liberation of electrons. As additives the use is made of chemical compounds containing potassium, barium and cesium.
