The present invention relates to a device for extracting mercury from tailings after small scale gold mining. The device has a removable mounted plurality of amalgam coated plates, each being arranged in an inclined and opposing manner, designed for allowing the flushed tailings to flow down from one plate to the next capturing thereby extracting unwanted mercury flours contained in the said flushed tailings. The inclined position of these plates, as well as its size, could be adjusted as desired to acheive the desired optimum result.
