The present utility model relates in general to a dietary product and its preparation but particularly to a tea from Annona muricata leaves. Before processing into tea, the plant materials of Annona muricata (Guayabano) were standardized following the general protocol (Manual on the ICS-UNIDO Training on Quality Control of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and Their Products,1998). Using the carrageenan-induced edema method, the crude extract of guayabano leaves showed 66.79 pcnt protection against edema at 500 mg/kg body weight. The anti-diabetic activity of the ethanolic leaf extract of Guayabano showed promising results when bioassayed against the positive control Metformin following the short-term anti-diabetic activity in alloxan-induced diabetes in rats.
