The invention consists in replacing the typical jaws or mechanical systems used to clamp cylindrical specimens of soil with suction pads that use vacuum techniques suitable for performing tensile tests and that do not create additional stress states along the sides of the samples tested. During tensile testing, the technical problem encountered with jaws or mechanical clamping systems is that they apply significant pressure and subject the soil to additional stress states or stress states different from the pure tensile state under which the test has to be performed. The proposed alternative solution to mechanical clamping systems is a novel clamping device or system for tensile testing on soils of fine granulometry. The device is essentially characterised in that it uses clean vacuum techniques and in that it only generates the stress states to which the specimens are to be subjected during the aforementioned tests (pure tension).
