The invention performs the technique called "pumping" in buildings, using a lower tank and an upper tank, which are joined by a single pipe. The upper tank can be filled from the lower tank by a pump and the lower tank can be filled from the upper tank by running the water through a turbine. Both the pump and the turbine form a unified machine next to a motor, normally asynchronous induction, which is operated in reversible mode, either as a motor or as a generator. The invention also comprises a method that takes advantage of the difference in the price of electricity in valley hours and at peak hours, as well as reducing the peaks of the building's demand curve, thereby improving its energy efficiency.
