Method and system for estimating the proportion of spermatozoa present in a sample belonging to a certain class, containing the sample (1) two different kinds of spermatozoa. The method comprises capturing digital images of the sample and describe the texture of sperm heads. With such texture descriptors sperm using a description and presorting performed with a set of known data is classified and labeled. From this classification, distance measures between various distributions are used, using the Jensen-Shannon distance, determining, with these measures, the proportion of spermatozoa belonging to each of the two classes present in the sample. Applicable to determine the proportion of sperm with damaged front sperm with intact acrosome acrosome, and to determine the proportion of live sperm and dead from a sample.
