A method of predicting a transient stability of a synchronous generator (E) providing an active electric power Pe and a reactive power Qe to a power system (PS), the method comprising once is rectified failure: - a measurement of Pe1, Qe1 electric power at time t1 and the electric power Pe2, Qe2 at a time t2 greater than t1, - a measurement of sliding s1 frequency synchronous generator at time t1 and the sliding s2 frequency synchronous generator at time t2, - a calculation by a calculating unit (U), of: ** ** Formula being ω0, H, Pr and Pm default parameters: - ω0 being a nominal angular frequency generator synchronous (E); - H being a constant of inertia of the rotating masses of the synchronous generator; - where Pr is a reference wattage which has been determined inertia constant H; - Pm being mechanical power that drives the synchronous generator, and - a comparison of QT s2 2 such that: If s2 2 = QT, the generator maintains stable operation once is rectified initial failure. If QT s2 2, a transient instability is predicted.
