An isolated polypeptide that is an epitope of CD43 that comprises an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 and that is less than 100 amino acids in length, where the epitope of CD43 is specifically expressed in thymocytes, the subgroup of hematopoietic precursors of the medulla bone, acute leukemia cells, blastic cells of chronic leukemia with blast crisis and lymphoblastic lymphoma cells.
