Epoxy resins and composite materials with improved combustion properties

A composition of matter comprising an epoxy resin composition comprising: a. 50 to 70 percent by weight of an epoxy resin component that includes one or more epoxy resins; b. 15 to 35 percent by weight of a thermoplastic mixture comprising polyetherimide and polyamideimide where the weight ratio of polyetherimide to polyamideimide is between 5: 1 and 1: 5; and c. from 5 to 25 percent by weight of a curing agent component where said epoxy resin composition has a sulfur dioxide emission level below 100 ppm as measured by the Boeing BSS Pattern Technical Assistance Specification 7238 (Revision B) and BSS-7239 (Revision A).
