An absorbent sheet (10) of cellulosic fibers with upper and lower sides, where the absorbent sheet (10) is characterized by: (i) hollow convex regions enriched with fiber (12) projecting from the upper side of the sheet (10 ), wherein said hollow convex regions (12) have side walls (34) and a local base weight at least 5% greater than the average base weight of the sheet (10); (ii) connection regions (18) that form a network that interconnects the convex regions (12), where the interconnection regions (18) have a local base weight that is less than the local base weight of the convex regions (12); and (iii) transition areas (38) with consolidated fibrous regions that undergo transition from the connection regions (18) to the convex regions (12), extending upward and inward from the connection regions (18) to the side walls (34) of the convex regions (12).
