Somatic embryogenesis of Jatropha curcas from ovules

A method for regenerating Jatropha by somatic embryogenesis comprising the steps: (a) cultivating a Jatropha explant in a first medium comprising basal MS medium and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in the dark to induce embryogenic callus formation, where the Jatropha explant is an ovule dissected from an unopened floral button; (b) cultivate embryogenic calluses in the first medium in a light / dark photoperiod to induce the development and maturation of the somatic embryo; and (c) culturing mature somatic embryos in a second medium comprising basal MS medium, indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and gibberellic acid (GA3) in a light / dark photoperiod to germinate the seedlings.
