A method of impacting the liquid droplets on a surface comprising providing a series of liquid droplets (4), which directs said liquid droplets (4) to a target surface (2; 12; 14; 20; 22; 24) to cause a shock wave (8; 16a; 16b; 16c) in the droplets (4) after impact, characterized in that the target surface is not flat and is shaped such that there is a single contact area or a plurality of discrete contact areas between the droplet and the surface, in order to intensify the shock wave in the droplet
