A method for manufacturing a crankcase (1) of a piston compressor, wherein the piston compressor is provided with a crankcase that is provided with recesses for receiving cylinders therein, and with at least one inlet opening, the method comprising: * providing at least two blank pieces of substantially rectangular body (2, 3), made from a flat sheet, each of which is provided with two opposite end edges and two longitudinal edges; * provide desired cylinder receiver holes to receive the cylinders in the two body blank parts; * flex the body blanks at an angle in an angle flex machine for the formation of a body part with a limited number of folds; * manufacture at least two substantially flat end walls (4, 5) from the flat sheet from a flat sheet; * manufacturing a cylinder support part (6) from a substantially rectangular sheet, comprising: - providing cylinder receiving holes in the substantially rectangular sheet; and - subjecting the rectangular sheet at least to an angle bending operation to form a cylinder support part, in the form of a saddle, with a limited number, preferably one or two folds; * place the two body parts, the cylinder support part and at least two end walls relative to each other by using a positioning tool; and * connect the end walls and the two body parts to each other with a welding robot, to form the crankcase.
