New family of nucleic acid sequences and deduced protein sequences, which present complete or partial human endogenous retroviral motifs. Detection and / or use of said nucleic acid sequences and of said corresponding protein sequences or of fragments of these sequences, within the framework of diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic applications, in particular for neuropathologies with an autoimmune component such as multiple sclerosis. Said purified nucleic acid sequences comprise all or part of a sequence coding for a human endogenous retroviral sequence, which has at least retroviral motifs of env type, corresponding to the sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 or to a sequence having a level of homology with said sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 greater than or equal to 80% over more than 190 nucleotides or greater than or equal to 70% over more than 600 nucleotides for the domains of type env.
