摘要
The invention relates to a process for producing amedical implant from a titanium alloy, by investment-castingthe titanium alloy in a casting mold whichcorresponds to the implant that is to be produced. Theinvention provides for using a .beta.-titanium alloy, hotisostatic pressing, solution annealing, and thenquenching. The invention also covers a correspondingmedical implant which has been produced from a titaniumalloy using the investment casting process. Thetitanium alloy is a .beta.-titanium alloy and has a meangrain size of at least 0.3 mm. The invention allowseconomical production of objects from .beta.-titanium alloysusing the investment casting process. The inventionthereby makes it possible to combine the advantageousproperties of P-titanium alloys, in particular theirexcellent mechanical properties, with the advantages ofproducing objects by the precision casting process. Theinvention enables even implants of complex shapes, suchas femur parts (1) of hip joint prostheses, which ithas been impossible (economically) to produce byconventional forging processes, to be produced from a.beta.-titanium alloy.
