Active power factor correction can be used to reduce input harmonics in an aircraft power distribution system. One or more power factor correction units (70) can be placed in the power distribution system to profile an input signal. Each power factor correction unit (70) can include a converter, such as an AC-DC converter, and can be placed in the power system bus (86) on the input side of the load (84). In an embodiment, a PFC unit can include a boost rectifier topology with active power factor correction for harmonics elimination. A power factor control circuit (72) is configured to output a control signal for the power factor correction units (70), the control signal being produced according to a harmonic of the DC output of the rectifier.
