A first digital zooming means (11) records, in a first memory (3), first video data obtained through digital zooming by switching a sampling operation for reading pixels of a camera sensor (1) at a sampling section (2). A second digital zooming means (12) generates second video data obtained through digital zooming by reading the first video data recorded in the first memory (3) and re-sampling the data in a re-sizing section (4), records the second video data in a second memory (5), and outputs and displays the second video data on an external display section. While the user is changing the magnification, the first digital zooming means (11) does not perform the digital zooming process, and the second digital zooming means (12) performs the digital zooming process to convert the image to the magnification desired by the user. When the magnification has been changed, both digital zooming means (11, 12) perform the digital zooming processes to re-generate an optimal image with the changed magnification.
