A method for expanding a heat transfer pipe (5) provided to a vapor generator using a pipe expansion jig (80), wherein a pair of vibration suppression members (14) for suppressing the vibration of the heat transfer pipe (5) is provided on both sides of the heat transfer pipe (5) in the radial direction thereof, wherein the pipe expansion jig (80) is provided with a probe (81) inserted into the heat transfer pipe (5) and also with an electromagnetic coil (82) provided to the probe (81) and expanding the heat transfer pipe (5) by means of electromagnetic force generated by a pulse electric current supplied to the electromagnetic coil (82), and wherein the method for expanding the heat transfer pipe (5) is provided with: an insertion step (S11) for inserting the pipe expansion jig (80) into the heat transfer pipe (5); and a pipe expansion step (S12) supplying the pulse electric current to the electromagnetic coil (82) for multiple times in such a manner that the value of the pulse electric current increases in incremental steps, thereby expanding the heat transfer pipe (5) until the heat transfer pipe (5) is in contact with both the pair of vibration suppression members (14).
