Methods are provided of forming a plurality of fan-shaped effusion holes (106, 702, 704) on a combustor (100, 602) having a surface (104), each hole (106, 702, 704) having an outlet (122) on the combustor surface (104). The laser beam (610) is pulsed (510) at each trepan cut of the first plurality of trepan cuts, to thereby form a cut for at least a portion of the fan shape of each effusion hole outlet (122), wherein each cut overlaps a trepan cut of the first plurality of trepan cuts.
