Disclosed are an alarm device in a data processing apparatus and an alarm method thereof. The alarm device comprises: an alarm module, used for determining alarm time and a corresponding alarm event of the alarm device, and triggering the corresponding alarm event when the alarm time is reached; a background operating module, used for enabling an operating system of the data processing apparatus to trigger, after a switch instruction is detected, the alarm device to enter a background operating state; an electric quantity detecting module, used for detecting the electric quantity of the data processing apparatus when the alarm device is in the background operating state; an electric quantity protecting module, used for writing, after the electrical quantity of the data processing apparatus is lower than a designated value, into the operating system a local notification capable of being triggered by the operating system, setting the triggering time for the local notification to the alarm time of the alarm device, and triggering the alarm device to enter a suspended state. By means of the technical solutions of this application, the electrical quantity of the data processing apparatus can be protected at the same time when the alarm function is enabled in the background.
