A channel decoding apparatus for use in a European digital audio broadcasting (DAB) receiver has a depuncturing unit (40) for inserting a predetermined value in the place of a punctured data based on puncturing information, thereby generating a depuncturing data. The depuncturing unit controls decoding of the viterbi decoder (60) based on the puncturing information. The decoding time of the viterbi decoder is shortened.
